Motion Picture Producers & Studios Technically speaking, motion pictures are films made up of a sequence of images, creating the illusion of movement when played rapidly. You can catch a major motion picture at the movie theater, on TV, or watch one on DVD at home.
But motion pictures can’t make it to the theater without talented producers and studios. Producers make movies and television shows, and studios fund and promote them. There are many different types of movies, from comedy and drama to action and fantasy. Perhaps you enjoy sci-fi, or maybe you prefer the classics. Whatever your interest, there is a genre out there that appeals to you. Films can be independently made by unknown film makers and producers, or they can be backed by large studios that are known for producing blockbusters.
A lot goes into producing a feature movie that will appear on the big screen at the cinema or on video at home. Professionals that work together to make a movie possible include directors, actors, editors, camera operators, and sound stage technicians. Some producers work in the movie industry, while others work in the television industry. A company may cross over and work in film, tv, and video.
A movie begins with a script, created by writers, then moves to casting. Once actors are selected, rehearsals take place and then directors film. Once filming is over, it’s up to the editors in post production to make it all look cohesive. Of course, there are many other people involved, including stage hands to visual effects creators.
