Modern museums typically house a collection of paintings, archaeology artifacts, and other rare and priceless objects. They may be in one building or a group of buildings. The goal of these establishments is to share a glimpse into history, natural science, world culture or fine arts. These depositories date back to the 1400s when the Capitoline in Rome showcased a private collection to the city's elite. Pope Julius II soon followed with the Vatican's display of sculptures and statues, but again, only the elite were allowed access. The world's first official public depository, the Louvre in France, opened in the 1700s. Anyone could view the Louvre's galleries, regardless of social status. These establishments form the basis of today's depositories. Many building structures, like metropolitan museums, focus on one artistic specialty. Metropolitan museums feature fine art displays, photography and temporary modern exhibitions. Some museums offer a variety of exhibits housed in different building structures and on multiple floors. They showcase a wide variety of artwork and exhibits including American and international paintings, air and space science, American history, American Indian, and national design. These museums may also offer exhibits on natural history, sculpture gardens and parks, and portrait galleries, postal artifacts and numerous other buildings. There's even a depository housing that offers wax replicas of celebrities. Displays can be permanent or temporary. Museum curators may arrange tours for groups or individuals. Children, teenagers, and adults enjoy spending free time viewing the displays. There are gift stores for souvenirs and cafes selling drinks or food. It's easy to spend an entire day in these establishments. Viewing these displays enhances a classroom or home school education. Visit a museum and gain lasting memories.

Museums are fun for the whole family; even children that have a tendency to get bored easily. There are plenty of displays that cater to children. They will be fascinated looking at dinosaur bones and using their imagination to think about what it would be like to live with the dinosaurs. Science, natural history, and art galleries will have exhibits that range from ancient to modern. If you want to find a gallery with a specific artifact or statue, call around to find if it's located in a local exhibit or coming to one soon. Non-profit organizations will give tours of fine art galleries that will include antiques and collectable items that have been kept in its best condition for many years. The Getty and Metropolitan museum are popular choices for tourists and those that live just down the street. Mobile exhibits will go to different galleries across the globe to give everyone a chance to look at the spectacular displays. Admission will vary, so calling in advance can give you an idea on how much you will spend for the day. Guides are available, sometimes for free, to give you in-depth information on different items. School field trips will give students the education they need outside of the school building in a fun atmosphere. Of course, there will be a different tolerance level depending on the museum you attend. Some will have displays that can be touched, while others will not. Counselors will be on the museum's staff to help provide education to tour groups or to individuals that are interested in more information. Counselors will be experts on antiques and collectables that the gallery showcases and can service as a terrific guide.
