National Guard
The National Guard is essentially a reserve military force for the United States. This militia is regulated by the US government, and is composed of members all over the country. Although members of the National Guard may be inactive at times, the federal government can activate this group if needed, in order to assist the United States Air Force and Army. The National Guard is a good option for those who want to join the military but are more interested in domestic active duty. While some recruits can be sent overseas during international conflicts and wars, most Army and Air Force National Guard units focus on locations in the United States. If you are interested in recruiting, then you should contact your state enlistment center. They can give civilians information about the Army units that might interest you. Be sure to get information about all of the different branches of the military so that you can be sure to join the unit that interests you the most. After you contact the National Guard recruitment office, it is a good idea to also contact the US Marine, Army, and Navy offices in your area so that you can learn more about the organizations' layout, drills, armory, and where you could be deployed during active duty. Since the US does not have mandatory military service requirements for civilians, you can choose to join any branch that you are interested in. Once you have joined, though, you will have to complete your duty so you need to be sure that you have enlisted in the branch that is right for you. If you are interested in serving on a part time basis, then you should ask the recruitment office about joining the National Guard Reserves. Most reserves are only active a few days out of the month so that they can serve their country while pursuing an education and careers.
