  • ALS – A neurological disease, often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, that results in the degeneration of neurons in the brain, brain stem, and spinal cord. ALS is characterized by symptoms like muscle weakness and twitching.
  • Multiple Sclerosis – A disorder that causes a person’s immune system to attack nervous system cells, interfering with communication between brain cells. Multiple sclerosis has a wide variety of possible symptoms, which can make it difficult to diagnose.

Depending on the severity of the injury or disease, these types of afflictions may require a stay in the hospital. A specialist in internal medicine will be able to recommend a course of treatment which can be discussed with family members. A specialist in dermatology or radiology may also be consulted. Patients suffering from dementia will also require clinical treatment.
