Important Wholesale Plant and Tree Nursery Terms

A wholesale plant or tree nursery grows plants to a practical size and sells them in bulk to businesses. Plant or tree nurseries often specialize in growing specific types of plants or trees. Usually, they have indoor gardens in climate controlled buildings and greenhouses that are operated year-round. The following five terms describe different types of plants that may be available at plant or tree nursery.

  • Annual – A plant that completes its lifecycle within one year and has to be replanted annually. Many flowers that are popularly used in home gardens are annuals. Examples of annuals include marigold, daisies, watermelons, beans, and petunias.
  • Biennial – A plant that completes its lifecycle in two years. Biennials grow leafy vegetation in the first year of their lives and flower in the second year. Common biennial plants include parsley, pansies, Queen Anne’s Lace, and Forget-Me-Nots.
  • Perennial – A plant that lives for more than two years. Perennials typically bloom in spring and summer and lie dormant during the winter. Examples of perennials are shrubs, trees, orchids, and hydrangeas.
  • Vegetables – Plants with edible and commonly eaten leaves, stems, or fruit. Vegetable plants can be annual, biennial, or perennial and include plants that grow foods typically thought of as fruits.
  • House Plants – Plants that can be grown indoors and, frequently, require lower levels of sunlight than outdoor plants. Tropical plants are often chosen for house plants because they are well suited for the temperature inside a home. Another common choice is low maintenance plants, like spider plants.

Wholesale plant and tree nursery locations can be found all over the United States. As you may know, these nurseries typically sell all kinds of garden vegetables seeds, flower bulbs, and indoor plant supplies to home centers and improvement stores in bulk. This way the retail distributors can purchase nursery products and supplies at discounted rates. Some plants and trees offered from wholesalers are cactus, dogwood trees, and hydrangeas, which are often climbing plants with flattened flowering heads. Regardless of the area you reside in, there is likely a nursery, garden center, or home improvement store nearby that offers all sorts of shrubs, tropical flowers, and perennials that bloom every year. Often wholesale nurseries supply these retail stores and garden shops with new stock every season. This can include tropical orchids, bamboo plants, ornamental magnolia trees with pink flowers, and even cherry trees. Many residential homeowners like a lot of green foliage and shrubs around their houses. Fortunately there are many perennial flowers that survive through the summer, fall, and winter seasons. These trees and flowers just need the right amount of sunlight and water to grow. Some other plants and flowers available through nurseries are roses, tulips, and lilacs. If you are interested in learning more about wholesale nurseries that offer various plants, flowers and trees, you may want to consult a local garden center, nursery, or home improvement store. These experts could likely address any questions or concerns you may have. You can easily contact a local nursery by phone.
