Finding a nursing home can be one of the most important processes for an individual. It is often done by a member of someone's family. If you are looking for a nursing home for a loved one, consider some of the following terms to help you in your search:
  • Convalescent - A convalescent is a person recovering from an illness or injury who needs assistance. This can include veterans and adults regardless of age.
  • Nursing home - A place for retirees and the elderly who can no longer live without assistance. Nurses are typically on hand at all hours to help the residents. They differ from hospitals in that they care exclusively for people with disabilities and those who are not in need of critical care.
  • Therapists - Most nursing homes have therapists on hand during most hours of the day to help care for its residents. The facility is typically equipped with health and therapy rooms.
  • Medicare - Rest homes are covered by medicare insurance when a person is recovering from an injury. For the elderly, medicare generally does not offer coverage.
  • Senior - An older person, usually over the age of 65. They are sometimes retired, and may need to live in a rest home.
  • SFF Initiative - Special Focus Facility Initiative. An initiative set forth by the government to ensure that homes take care of their residents. They check facilities, nurses, and other key factors.
  • Transitional care - The care of those who are in need of temporary assistance. Though it may be live-in, it is usually only for a few months.
