Definitions of Optical Equipment Machinery
The following terms are commonly used when talking about optical equipment machinery:

Phoropter: Used by ophthalmologists and other eye doctors during an eye exam, a phoropter is used to measure refractive error, or eyesight problems. It uses several different lenses to determine refractive error in the eyes, and from this information a glass lens prescription can be determined. The lenses are adjusted by the doctor while the patient is required to tell the doctor what they can see through the phoropter.

Eyeglass Prescription: Refers to the numbers determined by an eye care professional on how strong a corrective glass lens must be. An eyeglass prescription can only be written by an ophthalmologist or an optometrist. Opticians are not allowed to write eyeglass prescriptions.

Autorefractor: Similar to a phoropter, an autorefractor also measures refractive error in the eyes and is used to diagnose eyeglass prescription strength. It measures how light changes when it enters a person’s eye, which can be used to diagnose vision problems. They are smaller than phoropters.

Slit Lamp: A machine that focuses a slit of light into the eye and is used during eye exams. It is able to examine the entire eye, including the iris, sclera and corneas. It is also used to study the retina. This machine both illuminates and magnifies the eye so that the doctor can examine it properly.

Dilation: During many tests, the eyes themselves will need to be dilated with a couple of drops of liquid formula. Dilation allows for the pupils to adjust and become larger. While it is a painless process, the patient will have trouble seeing until it wears off.

Optical equipment machinery and supplies can be found at wholesale prices when you shop around and find a company that offers discount prices. If you're looking for a specific tool or high grade optics supplier you will want to find manufacturers by looking online or in a phone book and call to ask about their products. Ophthalmic equipment and instruments can become very expensive if you don't compare prices before making a purchase. Surgical and diagnostic supplies for medical companies may be offering discounts that the general public is not given. New and used imaging machines provide businesses with a cheap alternative. Laser and optical equipment can be bought at wholesale prices by calling a company and asking what type of sales they offer. Fiber optics, testing supplies, and coating equipment will range in price depending on the manufacturer. Each type of lens has their advantages and disadvantages. Look for reviews online to see which fits your needs the best. If you're looking for surface mount technology you can find better prices by not buying the first thing you see. If you need to have repairs done to machinery or tools you can contact the manufacturer and learn about your options. Laser and ophthalmic equipment may be under warranty so you won't be responsible to pay for the repairs. If an individual has taken out a warranty policy for the lenses they may also be given free repairs. You will need to keep the paperwork and receipt of the purchase to keep any confusion from occurring when trying to show that you in fact paid for the lens, tools, or pieces of equipment.
