As you know, different individuals require different type of optical goods and protective eyewear for various reasons. If you are looking for new prescription eyeglasses or high fashion shades, it helps to understand what is involved in this industry.   • Optometrist – A professional who examines eyes for defects and prescribes corrective eyeglasses and contact lenses.
  • Optician – This is an individual qualified to make and supply eyewear, contact lenses, and corrective eyeglasses.
  • Bifocal – Eyeglasses that have lenses with two separate parts; one is for reading and close up vision, while the other is for distant vision.
  • Transition Lenses – These are protective lenses that get darker in the sunlight in order to protect the eyes from UV rays.

    Long before wearing monocles or scissor glasses became available to the optically challenged, civilizations have looked for ways to improve their eye sight. They then write prescriptions for glasses or contacts that have the appropriate lens strength to meet the needs of the consumer. Some patients only need glasses for reading purposes. Others who need to wear glasses all the time may choose between bifocals and progressive lens options. Some versions are designed with transition lenses that offer protective coatings against the sun. Contact wearers can choose between disposable and reusable versions. They may even choose to alter their eye color based on the latest fashions. Designer frames are an important part of the optical goods market. Consumers are willing to make a large investment in an accessory that they will wear on a frequent basis. Retail eye wear stores and optometrists offices typically carry a line of frames. These can sometimes be found more cheaply by shopping around a larger discount outlets.
