Key Terms Related to Packaging Services
If you have a package that needs to be shipped, you will want to find the right service to handle the delivery. Moving or shipping larger items may cost more money out of pocket for this service. You want to ensure that the package has the right material to protect what you are shipping. Before you decide what service to help you with the move, the following are key terms to help you understand the packaging industry.
Logistics - A term that refers to the flow of goods and services from origination to consumption. Logistics starts when you place a product in a cardboard box. You take the box or carton to a business that specializes in shipping packages.
Freight - This is a package or goods that are transported by a truck, train, ship or aircraft.
Courier - This is a service that is offered to ship and move packages. Courier companies deliver merchandise safely for the consumer. This is considered a premium service as an alternative to the postal service. You will usually have to pay more for this service, but it is faster and easier to track. These services may also sell cardboard boxes or cartons for your convenience. You can use these if you are moving or shipping your possessions.
