Popular Pallets & Skids Terms

Pallets and skid steers are machines that help lift and stack heavy duty loads, typically within a warehouse. They may lift wood, steel, cargo, equipment and other goods from one place to another. Transport of these materials cannot be done by man power alone. Therefore, these and other machines are crucial in the shipping, trade, and storage industries. You can rent, lease, or buy skid steers and pallet loaders for temporary or permanent use. Use these machines to stack, move, exchange, or otherwise transport anything from biodegradable materials to be recycled to pressure treated bundles of wood to renewable materials. Whether you’re in the market to buy new heat treated pallets, plastic pallets, or custom wooden pallets, you can find a supplier of skids and pallets to provide you with what you need for your project. They may sell related items such as jacks, crates, racks, trucks, steel tools and other equipment. Dealers may also sell pallet wrapping machines. Here are some commonly used terms in the pallets and skids business.

  • Skid Steer – Small four-wheel-drive vehicles featuring lift arms, usually with a bucket or plow at the end. They are meant to be used in spaces with smaller dimensions, such as within an airport, warehouse, or customs department.
  • Pallet Loader – A machine that features a vertical lift platform to load or unload pallets of freight, within a warehouse or at the side of a plane side for instance.
  • Jacks – A portable device for lifting heavy objects.
  • Pallet Wrap – These pallet covers protect pallets in the warehouse setting and during transport from dust and debris.
  • Heat Treated Pallets – A method of treating pallets to remove harmful chemicals by heating to a wood core temperature.
