Popular Terms for Pet Supplies Wholesale

If you haven’t ordered pet supplies from a wholesale company before, then you might find that they use some words and phrases that you haven’t heard before. Instead of letting differences in lingo create a communication barrier that could negatively affect your business, use the following key words to help you better understand what products and services the wholesalers offer.

  • Pinky pump – A device used to force feed reptiles. The device looks much like a syringe. Inside the cavity, however, it has a space large enough to insert a frozen pinky (a baby mouse). When you push on the plunger, it squishes the pinky so that the snake or reptile can digest it more easily.
  • Dog crate – A small kennel. Many dog owners find that they can successfully crate their dogs over time. In fact, many dogs learn to enjoy their crates and prefer having their beds and food located there. Some crates also make good carriers that you can use to transport a dog or cat to the groomer, vet, or boarder.
  • Rawhide – An animal skin used as a chew toy for dogs. Some experts warn that these pet supplies can present choking hazards, so you should monitor your dog carefully while it plays with rawhide toys.
  • Amitripyline – An antidepressant medication used to correct a variety of negative behaviors in dogs and cats. This medication is often used to curb anxiety, prevent cats from using the restroom outside of their litter boxes, and helping animals relax at the groomers.
  • Clicker training – A training method. It involves using food rewards and a clicking sound to reinforce positive behaviors such as staying in bed at night, asking to potty go outside, sitting on command, and entering a carrier.

Pets of all kinds need a variety of supplies, from food and health care items to bowls and toys. Retail pet stores and general consumers may wish to purchase items in bulk to save some money, so for this, they turn to pet supply wholesalers. They may each have a specialty, selling certain items for certain pets. For example, one wholesaler may specialize in grooming products such as brushes, clippers, and trimmers. Another may focus on kennel and boarding items, such as crates, carriers, and cages. Most pet supplies wholesalers sell a wide range of supply products, such as treats, litter, flea and tick spray, dishes, and collars. Beds, wet and dry food, toys, and training products are a few more examples of items wholesalers may sell in bulk. Pet supply wholesalers may cater to a full range of pets, including dogs, cats, reptiles, rodents, and birds. Some may branch off into the exotic pet industry, such as monkeys, parrots, and large snakes. Pet supplies wholesalers can offer the supply items you need for your pet, especially health care items such as medication, tick removers, and eye and ear medicine. Veterinarians and breeders often buy from wholesalers, as they typically need lots of one product at once, such as food. Many companies have websites where consumers can purchase directly online, for delivery to their door. Anything from treats to bowls to beds can be found at pet supply wholesalers and warehouses. They may offer thousands of brand name products at pretty good discounts. Regular sales and closeout deals may add to the savings. Pets have been around forever, with cats being the first to be domesticated. Pet owners love their animals and often dress them in cute clothing. Pet supplies wholesalers may sell lines of clothing for pets as well.
