Important Terms to Know About Petroleum Services and Equipment
Petroleum, or crude oil, is known for its black, thick appearance. It’s a highly flammable liquid made up of hydrocarbons and other organic compounds, used to make fuel sources such as gasoline. Crucial to the world of energy, petroleum is sold by gas stations to the public, as its one main function is automobile fuel. Here are some important terms to know about petroleum services and equipment:

Fossil Fuel: Fuels formed by anaerobic decomposition of buried dead organisms from millions of years ago, made up of high percentages of carbon. Fossil fuels include natural gas, petroleum and coal, ranging from volatile materials such as methane to nonvolatile materials such as anthracite coal.

Pumpjack: Also known as a rocking horse or nodding donkey, this is an overground drive for a piston pump as part of an oil well, used to mechanically lift liquid out of the well when there is insufficient bottom hole pressure for liquid to flow to the surface. Commonly used for onshore wells that don’t create a lot of oil.

Geology: The study of solid Earth and the rocks that make it up. It also involves the processes by which rocks evolve. Those who study geology have insight into the history of the Earth by collecting evidence for evolution, past climates and plate tectonics. Today, this area of science is important in regards to mineral and hydrocarbon exploration.

Oil Refinery: Also known as a petroleum refinery, this is an industrial processing plant that processes and refines crude oil into petroleum products that can be used on a widespread basis, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, liquid petroleum and heating oil.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas: Also known as LPG for short, this is a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases commonly used in heating appliances and vehicles. It can also be used as an aerosol propellant and refrigerant.

Though we're turning our attention to alternative fuels, there's still a strong demand for petroleum's derivatives, including gasoline, kerosene, natural gas, lubricants, and more. Petroleum, also known as crude oil, is collected using specialty equipment to drill oil wells in oilfields. This process is known as oil exploration, or the recovery of oil and gas, and can consist of high tech equipment. If you're interested in finding a petroleum service or equipment provider, consider these steps to finding the best for your needs. First, go online and search the web for “crude oil exploration,” “drilling crude oil,” and “oil & gas engineering.” Browse the companies dedicated to petroleum engineering, drilling, and extraction. Look at their about pages, service pages, and equipment pages for such information as company history, goals, and contribution to the ever-changing energy landscape, their service packages, and equipment. Most will offer a variety or high-tech equipment, including drills, coiled tubing, directional equipment, hydraulic pumpjacks, cranks, and more. Some will also offer offshore oil rig services, refinery service, tankerman services, dock operations, plant operations, dispatch, professional software, reservoir construction, and other helpful information useful when interested in the charting and production of ether diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, kerosene, or more. If you're impressed with the website of the company, consider calling or meeting them in person to talk more about your needs and how they can help. Now's the time to ask the company all your questions you need answered before progressing – consider this their job interview. They should be able to answer anything and everything, including everything from safety issues to specific pricing for their services or equipment. Gauge whether or not you're a priority to them and how their customer service is overall. If it's not up to par, consider continuing your search.
