Impotrant Police Equipment Terms

As you may know, police officers and other law enforcement professionals commonly utilize certain equipment and gear on a daily basis. Many of these supplies are issued to them, and are mandatory for law enforcement work.   • Riot Gear – This refers to protective clothing, helmets, and boots that are worn by police and prison officers. State departments supply officers with this gear to help them handle riots and crowd violence in the streets and in prisons.
  • PR-24 – This is a standard baton that is carried and used by police officers across the United States. This baton has two gripping handles in a 90-degree angle, and is typically black. It is carried on a gear belt, and can be used for controlling, blocking, and striking.
  • Tazer Gun – Unlike a true firearm, this gun does not fire bullets. It actually fires prongs up to 15 feet that penetrate articles of clothing. The tazer sends out thousands of volts of electricity in order to subdue an assailant.
  • Riot Bullets – These are essentially rubber coated projectiles that are fired from police firearms. These rubber bullets are used to control riots and crowds that get out of hand. Sometimes small sandbags are used as well, and are fired from shotguns.
  • Body Armor – Any type of clothing that is designed to withstand gunshots. While bulletproof vests are body armor, there are special boots, helmets, and other clothes that assist with this as well.
