Nothing beats a nice swim in the crisp, clean waters of a pool on a hot day, whether it's a private pool at home or a public one at the local community center. Like all structures, swimming structures need to regular repair to maintain them properly. It's thought that the first pool dates back all the way to the third millennium B.C. The structures became popular with the ancient Greeks, Romans, and the Sri Lankans before coming to Britain in the 19th century. It grew in popularity and clubs started appearing all over Europe. It wasn't until after World War II when Hollywood started glorifying water sports in movies that outdoor residential structures became a status symbol. Most private and public structures are made from concrete, though vinyl liner, fiberglass and tile are also popular materials to use during construction. Private structures are usually built into, under, or around a deck and are maintained by the home owners. They can be above or in the ground. Many recreational centers have more than one public pool, including indoor heated structures, spas, and outdoor saltwater or chemically chlorinated structures. All pools and spas require filters, water pumps, and other parts to be clean along with covers for winterization. Diving boards, slides, ladders, and other equipment are reserved for larger structures. If the structure needs repair, epoxy and plaster may be needed to resurface a drained basin.
