Actives: Actives are radio program listeners who regularly contact the station. These communications typically include comments, song requests, and participation in contests and promotions.

Aircheck: An aircheck is a recording of a program’s live broadcast.

Cluster: A cluster refers to announcements that are presented in a sequence. Clusters may also be referred to as spot sets or stop sets.

Cue: A cue is a signal, usually given by the producer, to the on air talent to indicate that the beginning of the show is quickly approaching.

Gain: Gain is simply the volume or amplification of songs or talking on the radio.

Key: To key something is to either turn it on or turn it off via the main control console. In radio broadcasting, all sound sources need to be keyed.

Live tag: A live tag follows a prerecorded message, which can be anything from a commercial or announcement to a weather or traffic report. Live tags usually refer back to the message. They are often presented as though the on air talent just listened to the message for the first time.

Simulcast: A radio program that is simulcast is transmitted over more than one AM or FM frequency at once.

Syndication: A syndication is simply the radio programs that are broadcast over a radio network.

Wheel: A wheel is a radio production’s lineup. It includes what news reports, songs, commercials, and other items are to be included in the program and when they should be put on the air. Wheels are typically arranged in one hour blocks.
