Recycling Equipment and System Terminology

Recycling is a term used to describe the collection of waste and turning the material into new products. Many states have programs that allow households to place paper and plastic items into specific bins. Collectors will pickup these items on a set schedule each week. The bins are then put outside and taken to a recycling center. The facility features a variety of equipment and systems, including incinerators and compactors. Items that cannot be recycled are taken and disposed of in a landfill. Recycling is essential for a more sustainable environment.

  • Compactor - A compactor is a piece of equipment that crushes recyclable material under pressure in order to minimize its size. For example, plastic containers will be compacted so that more of these items will take up less space.
  • Front End Separation - Front end separation is a process at a recycling center that directs certain waste to a system that turns it into energy.
  • Composting - Composting is a term used to describe the waste management of natural resources. This includes turning decayed organic matter into fertilizer.
  • Incinerator - Recycling centers will have incinerators that will burn waste at extremely high temperatures.
  • Landfill – Landfills are disposable waste facilities where compacted trash is buried and covered with soil. A leak detection system is located on site to help minimize the pollution in ground water.
  • Capture Rate - Capture rate is the calculation of the amount of items recycled when measured against the potential amount of recyclable materials.
  • Residuals - Residuals are the waste material that is left after an item goes through the recycling process.

Recycling equipment and systems are commonly used in many parts of the United States these days. These waste disposal systems are often electronic, and can be used to process glass, plastic, cardboard, and metal. Any and all sewage matter is extracted from recycled materials so that they can be processed properly and reused. There are large industrial recycling plants that reclaim all kinds of recyclable materials so they are not disposed of in trashcans and landfills. Recycling is a specific treatment process of glass, plastic, cardboard and aluminum materials. The proper disposal of these kinds of materials is becoming more prominent nowadays in our society. Especially since there are so many people sharing this planet, and not enough room to dispose of trash and rubbish. Bins and containers are given out to residential homes and commercial businesses in order to promote recycling. This way professionals can pick-up the recyclable materials weekly so they can be processed through electronic equipment and systems. Some materials and waste that are collected include aluminum cans, milk jugs, computer parts, plastic containers, and glass jars. There is usually a specific program or schedule involved with this pick-up process. Furthermore, most towns and cities now have the resources to process glass, plastic, cardboard, metal, and paper products. This eco-friendly practice leads to less waste, landfills and sewage problems. You may want to check your local area for recycling centers and facilities. This is a great way to learn more about current equipment and systems used in this industry.
