Terms that Every New Restaurant Owner Should Know

Opening a restaurant can be exciting. Everything is fast paced and you get to meet a lot of people.   • Front of the House – A reference for the front portion of a restaurant where customers are allowed, such as the entry area, restrooms, dining room and conference rooms. The host or hostess is usually in charge of this area.
  • Full Service – A restaurant that has waiters/waitresses that cater to customers’ needs.
  • Single Service Utensil – Kitchen tableware that is disposable. These are used for carry-out food and one-time or one-person usage. These are popular because they're cheap.
  • Demographic Surveys – Surveys that are conducted to determine the age, race, gender, income, profession, etc. of your restaurant’s customers, allowing you to better cater to them with your prices and menu items.
