Choosing the Best Restaurant Options

There are more restaurant options available today than there have ever been. Today's diner has so many choices in ethnic cuisine that is has become a global experience. Thai and Mexican cuisine are almost as common today as Italian and Chinese once were. When deciding on where to spend your money, take a little time to figure out what choices are available. Try a few different establishments to find out what you like. There are many options to fit your budget.

  • Cafe - Might feature more limited choices than a full-service establishment. Cafe's are places where people tend to take their time as they eat and enjoy coffee and conversation.
  • Bar and Grill - An establishment that serves alcohol in addition to sandwiches, salads, and sides.
  • Buffet - Diners chose their own menu, at a fixed price, from an assortment of dishes. Many Indian places offer buffets that feature vegetarian options. Family-oriented establishments may offer all-you-can-eat options including soup, salad, and dessert.
  • Fast Food - Food that is prepared quickly and is available for take out or delivery as well as dine-in. Fast food has typically been burgers and pizza but may also include Greek gyros or Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine.
  • Red Checkered Table Cloth - Casual dining establishments with reasonable prices. These restaurants are more laid back than fancier joints.
  • White Table Cloth - These are more upscale fine dining establishments. The dishes will be priced higher your meal will be prepared to the specification of the chef. French cuisine is usually associated with this type of experience.
  • Sushi - A very popular Japanese dish featuring cooked rice with raw seafood or vegetables. These dishes are served with sliced pickled ginger and wasabi horse radish.

Sometimes there's a special occasion that needs to be celebrated or you just have no desire to cook. When this happens, it's time to go to a restaurant, a place where you can purchase prepared food for dining in, take out, or delivery. Every eatery has a focus that their menu revolves around, whether it be ethnic, family, or bar in nature. The first official restaurants were Chinese, established during the Song Dynasty. It's thought that these places grew along side theatrical stage drama. As time has progressed, dining establishments have matured in several different ways. Fast food cafes and buffet joints have risen to cater to the working stiff with very little time. These places can also include coffee bars. Average bar and grill places also aim to serve food fast, but their menus are often limited to finger foods. Family establishments usually aim to serve comfort food of various types, like southern, Mexican, Greek, or Italian cooking. Sometimes these restaurants offer specialty dining like vegetarian, sushi, fondue, or seafood to eat. Fine dining cafes elicit thoughts of exotic cuisine like French, Thai, or Indian. Some of these places require semi-formal or formal wear in order to be seated. Depending on the area's laws, some restaurants may not be allowed to serve alcohol without a meal involved or they may not be able to serve at all. Bars have severe alcohol restrictions that allow them to serve the way they do. Fully licensed cafes can serve all they want or allow people to bring their own beverages (BYOB).
