Riggers
Riggers move heavy objects, supplies and materials. The origin of the term comes from the time when most ships and boats operated under sails. Riggers secure the sails to the masts. Sailing is considered something people do for pleasure and entertainment. Although, there are still a fair number of sailing vessels and yachts in the water that are specifically for traveling. Although tall ships are no longer used to transport industrial cargo, and there is still a demand for experts on their rigging vessels. On a tall ship, ropes go from the masts and spars to the bow and stern. Terms such as yardarm and deck remain part of rigging vocabulary. However, the term rigger is now generally used to refer to somebody who handles heavy equipment and supplies. Riggers need to know things about cordage and tension, but the word can also be used to refer to a piece of machinery that moves heavy equipment and material. People still work heavily in certain specialty areas, including parachute rigging and rope rescue. They also use techniques that are commonly used to retrieve somebody using a helicopter. Some riggers may no longer work on ships and boats, but many of the techniques that they use remain similar. Rigging techniques are used to secure loads to cranes and even to move livestock using a special hoist. Riggers work on the docks, moving cargo in and out of ships and in the construction industry. Although much of the work is no longer done by hand, the same knowledge is still needed.

There will be stores that will have the equipment and supplies you need to accomplish this task. If you have questions on what you will need to buy you can ask an employee to see if they have any recommendations. To find a store that sells rigger and outrigger supplies you can look online or in a phone book to find the phone number to the company. Call and ask if they have what you need to move a sailboat, or yacht. Parts of the object that you need to move will be rigged to transport it from one location to the other. A mast, spar, or yardarm, attached to the bow or deck, can all help with the tension of the ropes to keep everything secure. If you're looking for somebody to pack or inspect your parachute you will need to locate a person that is properly licensed to do so. Call several companies and ask how long they have been licensed and how long they have been doing this type of work. Rigging and cordage supplies will range in price depending on where you shop. If you're looking for specific types of rigging equipment you can call a store in advance and ask if they have industrial strength supplies, rescue equipment, and anything else you will need for sailing. When moving heavy objects you will want to trust the company you bought the equipment from. Look for reviews to see if there is any place you should avoid due to poor quality products they have been known to sell.
