Terms to Know About Safety Equipment

For many people working industrial and outdoor jobs that involve machinery and heavy equipment, safety is the number one priority for everyone. From the marine industry to those working high up on electrical poles, roofing, mining and more, danger is a part of every day on the job. Fortunately there is a wide range of specialized safety equipment for sale to help keep people safe and alert. Many of this equipment, such as traffic cones, are also designed to protect the public as well as the workers. Here are some terms to know about safety equipment.

  • Ergonomic – Ergonomic is a word that defines an employee’s relationship with the machinery, equipment and tools he or she must use on a daily basis and the principle of making each piece of equipment as safe as possible for use. For example, truck drivers and office workers can use ergonomic chairs designed for back support while lab employees may have specialized magnification glasses to avoid eye strain.
  • Gauntlets – Gauntlets are long cuffs which protect skin from hazardous materials and can be purchased from a retailer or wholesaler. Gauntlets are often worn by people welding, in roofing, mining and more while highly specialized gauntlets are used by people around radiation.
  • Casters – Casters are small wheels which are typically attached to carts, electrical or manual, and other devices to help people move heavy objects more easily keeping safety a priority. Carts on casters can be used for personal use, by suppliers and wholesalers for moving large crates and more.
  • Buoys and Throw Lines – Buoys and throw lines are safety devices used in water during marine, boat and swimming activities. Buoys and throw lines float on water to designate certain areas for specific water traffic.

If you work for a construction or industrial company where you use a lot of heavy gear and equipment, then you will probably need some safety equipment that will prevent you from getting hurt on the job. There are many different safety equipment companies that you can buy apparel like gloves, hard hats, protective glasses, and lab coats from. Many of them also have shelters, guard rails, lock systems, hazardous substance indicators, detection alarms, rescue gear, barriers, and other technologies that can keep workers safe. With so many options, it can be difficult to decide which company has the products that are right for you. By following these guidelines, though, you should be able to determine which companies fit your needs. When you first contact the safety equipment companies, ask them how long they have been in business. Those with several years of experience should have the safety and protective gear as well as clean proofs and other equipment for industrial and constructions. Ask the companies if they have a list of references that you can check. This is often one of the best ways to determine if the company's other clients are satisfied with the products and services that they have gotten. Ask the company if they have an online catalog so that you can look at the equipment, lab coats, and other protective gear that they have. Ask them to give you a price quote so that you can compare their prices to those of other companies and determine which ones meet your budget needs and which ones are too expensive.
