Types of Professional Training Offered By Medical and Dental Technician Schools

There are many schools that offer diplomas for medical and dental professions. These programs often provide hands on training along with traditional classroom hours. You can even earn the same certificate from online schools. If you are interested in an entry-level dental or medical career, consider one of the following options.

  • Dental Hygiene – This program allows you to earn the title of dental hygienist or dentist assistant. These professionals focus on preventive oral health. Common duties include cleanings, taking radiographs, and assisting dentists with advance procedures. Most people attend a two-year training school, but requirements vary from state to state.
  • Radiology – To become a radiology technician, your state will require the completion of a certificate, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree program. In this position, you will help with the diagnosis of patients by taking images of their bodies. This career could take you to various health care specialties such as respiratory therapist or surgical technologist.
  • Pharmacy – This degree allows individuals to work alongside of licensed pharmacists. Many pharmaceutical technicians work in drugstores. After completing training and passing the two mandatory exams, you will be able to give out prescription drugs as well as other medical devices. Patients will also turn to you for instructions for their use.
  • Ultrasound – An ultrasound uses repeated sound compression, like SONAR, to allow doctors to see within the body. Unlike an x-ray, this procedure has no known risks. Ultrasound technicians, also called sonographers, are responsible for preparing and explaining the entire procedure to the patient, as well as evaluating the images produced by the ultrasound. The most widely known need for this type of profession is in obstetrics.
