Scrapbook Stores Popular Terms

If you love to scrapbook as a hobby, you most likely have a favorite scrapbook store that you like to visit. These stores sell products and supplies related to scrapbooking, offering items like paper, accessories, stickers, and stamps. This popular hobby is a growing trend, allowing people to preserve their precious memories through journaling and photos. You can do a lot on the computer these days, choosing various word processing software and photo editing software for cropping, editing, and layouts, and make backgrounds. You can pick up all the necessary arts and crafts supplies from a scrapbooking store near you. Just keep these popular terms in mind.

  • Die Cut – Similar to a mold, a die is a tool used to cut material into a particular shape. Scrapbookers utilize small handheld models that can be used to make cutouts on anything from labels and tags to greeting cards.
  • Acid-Free Paper – A type of paper desirable in scrapbooking that contains a pH level of 7.0 or higher. Acid-free paper and card stock all last longer and don’t deteriorate over time as with standard paper.
  • Lignin – A substance inherent to wood pulp for paper, which can cause paper to yellow as the years go by. Scrapbookers concerned with fading and yellowing should aim to purchase paper with one percent or less of lignin from an arts and crafts store.
  • Embellishments – Extras such as stickers, brads, eyelets, buttons, and ribbons that all serve to enhance the aesthetics of the page.
  • Pigment Ink – This type of ink is permanent with chemically stable qualities. It’s desirable in scrapbooking due to its waterproof nature and light weight. This ink won’t bleed or fade either.

As a hobby, scrapbooking dates back a long time. Scrapbooking was very popular during the nineteenth century, but dipped in the twentieth. It found a resurgence in the 1980s. Scrapbooking stores sell supplies for making scrapbooks and other crafts. These shops may be specialty or general art and craft stores. Many of these stores exist entirely online. They sell materials including cards and stickers. They also offer advice on scrapbooking and have arrangements with scrapbooking clubs. Scrapbooks require cards, paper, and embellishment. Kits offer a good start to an individual wishing to pursue this hobby. These kits often include binders and a certain number of starter pages. More experienced craft enthusiasts often make embossed pages and use other accents to customize their projects. Shops also sell photo albums and accessories. Digital scrapbooking has become something of a recent trend. Online stores sell scrapbook elements such as fonts and brushes. They also sell layout templates and other design elements. Digital scrapbooks are often converted to physical form using special card and paper. However, many scrapbooking elements exist entirely in digital format and are designed through specific software. Supplies are also sold by general art and craft stores; also at times by department and toy stores. Toy stores often sell stickers which can make their way into the books of scrapbook experts. Supplies range from the simple paper and card stock to complicated templates and software programs, some of which can be very expensive. Scrapbooking clubs may trade these items as well as ideas, and may group together to buy supplies in bulk.
