Does one rink rent out its skates at a reduced rate to children and seniors? Does another host occasional speed skating and figure skating competitions? Does a third sponsor a local skating league? Does a fourth maintain a great deal of recreational equipment, like foosball tables, ping pong tables, darts, or an arcade room? You'll want to have these questions answered before you decide to visit or rent from one of these skating rinks? You'll also want to call up the owners of each of these rinks to ask them for references beforehand.
