The Basics of Skydiving and Parachute Jumping
The sport of skydiving was first adopted and used by the military, as a means of saving crews on airplanes. Parachute jumps and skydives are similar in nature, because a skydive also requires a parachute to open for a successful jump. If you are interested in this type of air sport, it is important to find qualified instruction from skydiving experts and professionals that will teach you how to skydive safely. There are many different types of skydives that you can try, including tandem, accelerated freefall (AFF), progressive freefall (PFF) and instructor-assisted deployment (IAD). PFF is the most intense type of parachute jumping, which involves a freestyle run where the trainee pulls his own cord on the very first jump. Tandem jumping involves a forward throw while attached securely to an instructor, and AFF offers training with two instructors on either side. IAD is a hybrid system that involves a few minutes of vertical freestyle diving with the instructor assisting with deployment of the parachute prior to landing. If you want to train for a skydive or parachute jump, it is important to learn the different types of freestyle training available. It is also important to find a school with the best landing site for accuracy and plenty of practice runs with a ram-air parachute to ensure you learn jumping before trying a freestyle formation on your own. Indoor skydives are another option for the adventurous, with blades creating the air flow necessary to suspend in the air like you were experiencing a real base jump.
