Sometimes, older people and those with disabilities need assistance getting up the stairs. If they live in a home that has two floors, getting up and down the stairs on their own can be tough, not to mention a lengthy process. There is a solution to this problem, and that is to have a stairlift installed. Stairlifts are mechanical devices that lift people and wheelchairs from upstairs to downstairs and vice versa. A chair sits on a lifting platform attached to a rail. This electric device provides a smooth ride up and down the stairs, eliminating the hassle of climbing the stairs and risking a fall. They are ideal for the disabled, along with senior citizens who are unable to run up and down stairs. Stairlifts can curve up a staircase or travel vertically straight up and down, depending on the style of the staircase. Some can even be located outdoors, as they glide and scoot up outdoor staircases and porches. You can install one yourself or have a professional contractor install it for you. Other types of stairlifts include those located within handicap accessible vans, complete with platforms to safely lift wheelchairs in and out of the handicap automobile. Similar electrical powered devices are also used in bathrooms, to get people safely in and out of their tubs. Elevators are related pieces of equipment that can also be installed. Stairlift providers sell all the supplies and equipment needed to install these devices aimed at keeping people, with wheelchairs or without, mobile. Residential mobility products include home elevators, vertical platform lifts, ramps, straight rails and curved rails.
