Stereo and Hi Fi Dealers Terms to Know

If you're looking for home or professional stereo equipment, you're likely to run across lots of equipment terminology. Before shopping from dealers, review some of the common terms associated with audio equipment:

  • Audio Cable - Wiring used to connect speakers to Hi Fi audio devices. Cable with a higher gauge has a better ability to transmit sound.
  • DJ Mixer - Audio equipment that allows a DJ to play, alter and fade between music. This is used to make and record original DJ mixes. A DJ console may include sound effects and turntables.
  • Woofer - Low frequency or bass loudspeaker unit, often included in home or car audio equipment. Sub-woofers and other audio amplification equipment are available from stereo dealers.
  • Amplifier - Electronic equipment that amplifies a sound, making the signal larger. Power amplifiers are the loudspeakers of an integrated amplifier. Pre-amplifiers control the input to source signals.
  • Monoblock Amplifier - An amplifier with one channel. This may be used for a sub-woofer, for example.
  • Multi-Channel Amplifier - An amplifier with multiple channels, which is required for certain types of sound systems, such as surround sound systems. A system with two speakers would need two channels.
  • Stereo Shelf System - A compact, integrated stereo system that can be easily installed in your home. Micro shelf systems are especially compact, but can produce a large sound.
  • Tape Deck - A machine used for playing tape recordings, including cassette decks and professional studio tapes. Some tape decks are designed for specific kinds of tapes, such as micro tapes or digital audio tapes.
  • Boom Box - A portable audio device that plays CDs or tapes. It may additionally have a recording function and Hi Fi capabilities.

Stereo and hi-fi equipment dealers are located across the country. These professionals specialize in home theater equipment like audio speakers, CD players, and surround sound systems. While some businesses offer these products and electronics new, others sell used equipment. Hi-fi is the abbreviation for high fidelity, which involves the high quality reproduction of music or sound. In this day and age, many people prefer high quality audio surround sound in their homes, which generally improves their music and television entertainment. There is a great deal involved with hi-fi and stereo equipment. For instance, there are stereo receivers, which are basically the primary machine that connects to audio speakers. This device has the tuner knobs and controls on it that can alter the amount of treble and bass that is incorporated. There are also subwoofers, which are loudspeaker components that assist with reproducing very low bass sounds. When these stereo systems are installed in vehicles, there are often rear and front speakers used, as well as tweeters, which are mini loudspeakers used to reproduce high frequencies. Nowadays stereo equipment dealers offer a broad assortment of hi-fi theater equipment, speakers, and sound systems for vehicles and residential home use. A wonderful way to learn more about stereo and hi-fi equipment is by getting in touch with a local dealer or electronics store. This way you can make any inquiries that pertain to tweeters, subwoofers, surround sound systems, or CD layers for the home you are interested in.
