  • Acid Wash – A chemical treatment that is applied to natural siliceous or calcareous stone in order to alter the finish and texture. It encourages a more distressed look, and is sometimes done on kitchen countertops and tile floors.
  • Backsplash – This is the area in a kitchen that is located between the cabinets and the countertop. It is often around 16 to 18 inches in height, and decorative tile is commonly placed in this space to add color and character to the kitchen.
  • Engineered Stone – A type of manmade or manufactured stone that is not natural. However, engineered stone often resembles marble, limestone, or brick, but at a lower cost. It may also be easier to maintain and clean than natural stone is.
  • Metamorphic Rock – This is a type of rock that has been altered in crystalline structure, appearance, mineral composition, and density. Both intense pressure and heat are used to alter the rock. An example is slate material that is made from natural shale.
  • Thermal Finish – A surface treatment for natural stone, such as marble, granite, or limestone. This treatment involves intense heat flaming, which alters the appearance and surface texture of the stone.
