Terms to Know at the Supermarket

Whether you are hosting a black tie party or just making dinner for your family, your local grocery store or supermarket will have what you need. A supermarket typically offers everything from office supplies to food and clothing while a grocery store specializes mainly in food. Grocery stores usually have specialty departments including a deli, butcher, seafood station and pharmacy. Here are terms to know about supermarkets and their delivery order website.

  • Organic – Many supermarkets and grocery stores carry organic produce and other goods. Organic produce and foods are made and grown without the use of chemicals, fertilizers, food additives or antibiotics. Grocery stores today are also offering delivery services for their produce including organic offerings.
  • Generic Brand – Generic brand products are sold without a brand name on them and are typically manufactured by the store that is selling them or a lesser known, unadvertised brand.
  • Blinkies – Some supermarkets choose to have small coupon dispensers on their aisles which offer coupons to the customers. The small coupon dispensing machines print in store and feature a small blinking red light which is where they get the name blinkies.
  • Peelie – Coupons that brands put on the packaging of their products for customers to peel off and use for discounts rather than having to print a coupon at home are called peelies.
  • Confections – Confections are foods that are made from a considerable amount of sugar such as candies, chocolate and sweets.
  • Slotting Fees – Supermarkets strategically arrange the food on their shelves to promote certain products. A wholesaler can pay a slotting fee to get the prime eye level shelf space for their canned goods, meat, dairy, bakery items or other product.

If you are living on a fixed income or you're interested in saving up some money, you really should consider using coupons whenever you go grocery shopping. Most supermarkets print weekly coupons in circular advertisements, and a few even print daily coupons. They then distribute these coupons throughout their stores and deliver them to their repeat customers. If you aren't already receiving these coupons, you can ask to start having them delivered to your household. Then, when you start making up your weekly grocery list, you can plan around the coupons you'll be able to use that week! You can use these coupons for just about everything you might want to buy just about all the food you'll want. You can use them on fresh bread from the grocery's bakery. You can use them on deli meat and party platters from the grocery's butcher stand. You can use them on dairy products, produce, canned goods and alcohol as well. You can even use these coupons on non-food items. You can use them on cleaning products. You can even use them to save money on the prescription medicine you buy from your supermarket's pharmacy. So, before you stop by your favorite grocery store or supermarket chain, check to see whether or not you've got any new coupons in the mail. Using coupons is easy and convenient, and it can save you quite a lot of money in the long run. Most grocery store owners are happy to accept these coupons, as long as they haven't expired yet, and you should have no trouble cashing them in for large savings!
