Key Terms Relating to Tee Shirt Design

When you are on the market for customized shirts and apparel, there are several decisions you need to make regarding style and technique. You can start with a blank cotton or polo shirt. There are many things from there that can be done to personalize the shirt to your specifications. Find a company that has several designs for you to choose from. Before you start shopping for a printing company, the following are key words to help you in the process.

  • Vinyl Stickers - These are used in conjunction with a heat transfer process to add an image or logo to a tee. This is usually the cheapest process of customizing shirts, but does not last very long.
  • Embroidery - A process of adding a logo to apparel or shirts by sewing thread or yarn. This type of shirt may cost more to produce, but there is less likelihood for the logo to fade.
  • Direct to Garment - A process of printing a logo directly onto the garment. This process doesn't require a screen or stencils to complete. This is another cheap alternative to using vinyl stickers.
  • Screen Printing - A technique that uses mesh and a stencil to put a logo onto a polo or shirt. Many companies that specialize in customized tees have a screen printing process.
  • V Neck - A style of shirt in which the front forms a v shape below the neck. This style is most commonly seen on short sleeve shirts. They are also available in long sleeve shirts.

If you're a crafty person or if you're interested in fashion design, then odds are you've probably thought about making apparel of your own. Designing and creating your own clothes may sound difficult, but it's really not, because with a little time and effort, you could even have a tee shirt line of your very own! If you do decide that you want to design a personalized tee shirt, then you will need to stock up on supplies first. You can do this by visiting your local wholesale apparel store. These stores sell tee shirts in every style and material imaginable. They sell long sleeve and short sleeve shirts. They sell v necks and polo shirts. They sell plain cotton shirts, heavyweight flannel shirts and gauzy silk shirts. Some of these stores even sell vintage shirts and other types of apparel. Once you've purchased a shirt from a wholesale store, you can begin working on your custom design. Screen printed tee shirts are especially fashionable, and you may want to consider making one. Screen printing isn't as difficult as most people imagine it to be, and it can be a great way to add a custom image of your favorite band to a previously blank shirt. Embroidery is also always popular, and if you are feeling ambitious, you could create and embroider a logo of your own onto your tee shirt. With a little time and effort, you can create a tee or polo line of your very own. You can create a line that could appeal to adults and kids alike, and you'll be sure to have a lot of fun in the design process!
