Whether you don’t have time to lay out on the beach, or want to look your best for an important event, you can get a quick and natural-looking tan by visiting a salon. Here are some common tanning terms.

  • Indoor Tanning Lotion – Indoor tanning lotion is different from regular suntan lotion. You can buy products made specifically to help you bronze, for your face, that tingle, that moisturize, that firm your skin and so an.
  • Moisturizer – Moisturizer maintains the beauty and tone of your skin after you tan. While some tanning lotion contains built-in moisturizer, you may prefer an added product to use after you visit the spa.
  • Safety Goggles – When you go to a tanning salon, you should be offered a pair of safety goggles to protect your eyes. If you opt to wear sunglasses instead, use a kind that has UV protection.
  • Sunless Tan – With a sunless tan, you simply spray on the product, and it lasts for as long as week. This technique helps you to avoid UV damage. You can buy airbrush tanning spray and do it yourself at home, or make an appointment with a salon. The airbrush technique has become very popular. A top-rated sunless tanning product should not make your tan look orange or fake.
  • Tanning Booth – Also called a sunbed, a tanning booth is a machine lined with lamps that emit ultraviolet rays, giving you a tan in a fraction of the time it takes to lay out. Some salons let you use a bed that isn't a bed at all, but rather a booth that you stand up in; European salons call them “tanning verticals,” and they supposedly provide a more even tan. You can choose between low- and high-powered booths.

    Tanning has been gaining in popularity since the 1960s. Once upon a time people achieved this effect naturally by simply sitting on the beach or in their backyards at home. Fifty years later soaking up the rays it's become a big business. Many people are fearful of the UV rays they will absorb through long-time exposure. These UV rays have been known to cause cancer. In an effort to maintain their desired glaze, solar bathers have turned to many alternative forms to get their desired look. As a result, salons that specialize in adding that coveted golden color have popped up all over the country. The European method is a popular one. Making an appointment at a salon or spa is a way to get bronzed in a sunless indoor tanning bed. There are machines and booths that can be utilized. Sometimes individuals, wary of exposure to lamps and beds will use sprays to airbrush a darker fake tone onto their skins. Using this type of application is the ultimate form of self bronzing and can be applied almost anywhere at any time. Whether your specific beauty regiment requires a spray or airbrush application it is important to take precautions. If you do decide to go the traditional route of basking in the heat, don't forget to apply protective screen to decrease the effects of the rays. Remember, lotion increases the process, it will do little to protect you from harmful rays. The vitamin D in the sun's rays certainly can do a body good but there are risks to over exposure and you should always take precautions.
