Servicing Televisions and Radios

Television and radio continue to be popular sources of entertainment. Today you have the choice of bigger screens, cable, and satellite TV. With radio, you can also get satellite programming and sleeker designs. Despite all the improvements made, these items still break down. If yours needs fixing, below are some terms you may hear your repairmen say.

  • LCD – A liquid crystal display television are quickly growing more popular. Because of the sort of technology used in this TV, it is able to have a thinner and wider screen than other types. Also, since they contain no phosphors, they are not at risk of an image being burned into the screen.
  • Cathode Ray Tube – A few decades ago, CRT televisions were common. This type of vintage TV consists of electron guns, a phosphor target, and an electrostatic deflection plate. The image is made by adjusting the beams produced by the electron guns. The front of the tube is constantly scanned in a programmed pattern called a raster. These devices are difficult to repair since the technology is obsolete and parts are scarce.
  • Plasma – Plasma televisions are the main competition of LCD TVs. The technology used to create the images uses tiny cells with electronically charged ionized gases inside, just like fluorescent lamps. In the past, blacks were darker on plasma screens than on LCDs, but manufacturers have worked to decrease the difference. This technology is common for bigger TVs, up to 150 inches.
  • CB Radio – Short for Citizen’s Band, this type of radio service is often used by truck drivers to share information about important issues like weather conditions, as well as have a friendly conversation while on the road. These two way radios can have a range of a couple miles, but it depends wholly on the antenna.

Television and radio repair companies can often service a wide range of products, including big screen TVs, satellite radio receives, and stereos that use vintage audio vacuum tubes. Not all of the companies that service your area, however, will necessarily offer the same types of repairs. Some of the shops might choose to focus on car radios and CBs. Others, however, might focus on plasma screen and digital TVs used in people’s homes. If you know what type of television or radio that you need repaired, then you can search for a business in your area that focuses on restoration services for that specific type of product. An Internet search engine is a useful tool that can help you identify repair shops that offer services for various audio and visual products. By locating a company’s websites, you might, for instance, find that they have experience repairing antique two way radios, or that they have a wide range of bulbs used in vintage television sets. In some cases, you might find that none of the repair shops in your area concentrate on the big screen TV or satellite dish that you own. When this happens, you might consider shipping the product to a repair shop in another city. Shipping heavy objects, however, can cost a lot of money. You might, therefore, consider looking for an online supplier that sells the parts that you need fix your television or radio. Consider reading reviews before hiring a company to fix your products. You might find that one store receives positive reviews with a greater frequency than the others.
