Terms To Consider about Television Parts and Supplies

Choosing the proper television parts can be confusing if you're not aware of the various functions and systems of each part. TV repair can be accomplished on your own if you know what you're doing. Keep in mind that the supplies you purchase should be compatible with your TVs model. The following are terms you might encounter when shopping for TV supplies.

  • Color Wheel - The source of the TV picture's color, which is composed of a spinning circle of primary colors. A buzzing sound coming from your television is an indication that you need to replace the color wheel.
  • Transistor - An essential component of TVs and other electronic devices that uses a semiconductor to switch and amplify electric signals.
  • Antenna - A device used to transmit local television broadcasts to your TV. Rabbit ears and other antenna parts are oriented to create good reception for broadcasts.
  • Digital Converter Box - A device you must install in order to transmit broadcasts with an antennae. Broadcast stations used to use analog transmissions, but now use digital transmissions that require a converter for reception.
  • Display Panel - Serves as the screen and provides the television's visual display. Many modern TV's utilize flat display panels. For example, LCD TVs use electroluminescent flat panels, while plasma TVs use plasma displays. Older television models usually incorporate cathode ray tube displays.
  • Pixel Resolution - The number of pixels in a single row on a TV screen. High-resolution displays are common in modern TV technology and create a sharper picture.
  • Cable - A system of transmitting TV channels that are limited to a paid service.

    The television has become a staple in many homes, with many folks owning more than one TV set. When a TV breaks, a repairman can be called to assess the damage and replace broken parts. If you are electronically inclined and can get your hands on the proper supplies, then you may be able to fix the set yourself, though training is required to become a repairman. The concept of the television came about in the late 1800s, but it wasn't until a century later, that a set was developed that could simulate a moving picture. The tube TV became very popular after its creation, with its monochromatic screen and large external antenna. It wasn't until the 1950s that color became part of the broadcast. The color TV inevitably changed picture quality, making these units even more popular. LCD screens began replacing the traditional projector and the development of plasma increased resolution even more. The more popular models are technologically advanced and have high definition, HD, resolutions. Modern televisions have better signal strength, internal antennas and stronger audio performance. As televisions become thinner yet more advanced, parts inside have evolved to be more streamlined. Smaller circuits and power couplings still provide enough strength to properly transmit signals to the monitor. Tuning is done via remote instead of pressing buttons or turning knobs on the unit, making the connection more delicate in the separation. Because these pieces are so intricate, proper supplies for fine tuning and replication are needed. Since each brand of TV is different, you may need different supplies and parts for each type.
