    Ceramic tiles have been found in ruins that date back over 4000 years. They were heavily used by the Romans, and many of their murals survive today. Roofing is one of the older uses of ceramic tiles, although slate is also common in some parts of the world. Ceramic tiles are also used as flooring material.
