If you visit a tire retailer, you will find many brands of tires for automobiles and trucks and you can even have them installed. You can also shop online.

  • Pneumatic Tire - This is the common rubber car tire. Its purpose is to protect the rim and provide traction.
  • Rim - The actual wheel which is usually made of steel. Rubber tires are placed over these and if the tire goes flat, the rim will get bent.

  • Used - Used tires are usually salvaged off of cars that were in accidents and are perfectly safe. It would be good to check the tread before buying, though.
  • Snow - Tires that are specifically created to be used in snow conditions. These are a good alternative to tire chains because they don’t need to be taken off
  • Tread - The pattern on the tires that provide traction. When these are worn down, it’s possible for them to be re-treaded, but it usually means it’s time to replace the tire.
  • Hydroplane - When water suddenly comes between the tires and the ground, the driver of the vehicle will lose control of the steering, braking, and accelerating for a brief period of time.
  • Penny Test - This is a test to see if your car has enough tread. If Lincoln's head is completely visible, then the tire is too worn out.
