Livestock Trailer Terminology

  • Gooseneck - A gooseneck trailer is one that attaches to a coupling that is located in the bed of the truck, rather than the vehicle's frame near the rear bumper.   • Slider - A slider is a utility door located in the rear of a trailer. It can be opened in lieu of the main gate in order for one animal or person to exit. These are primarily on larger goosenecks trailers with ramps.
  • Breast Bar - The breast bar is an aluminum or steel bar within the cargo space that keeps a horse or cow safely within the traveling stall area. The breast or butt bar also keep the animal from attempting to move around.
  • Bridle Hooks - Bridle hooks are often included along the walls of an equine trailer so that a horse can be safely secured while the other horses are being loaded into the trailer.
