Whether you need after school tutoring for your children or private tutoring that helps you complete college classes, you will need to know a few key terms that will help you decide which study program is right for you. Once you have learned the following terms, you should find that you can choose a test prep, foreign language, English, or math tutor that meets the needs of you or your children.

  • Online Tutoring – You don’t have to meet with an instructor to learn the lessons you need to pass Spanish, chemistry, or English language classes. Many students use online tutoring centers that offer homework assistance and provide weekly assignments that help hone their skills.
  • Homework – You’re already familiar with the type of homework that school teachers assign. Your private tutor might also assign homework in subjects such as French, Spanish, and algebra.
  • Science – Science consists of a wide range of subjects, including chemistry, biology, and physics. Look for a learning center that offers instruction in the subjects you find the most challenging.
  • Math – Math is taught at various levels. Remedial math might include basic addition and subtraction. As a student progresses through school, however, she is likely to encounter other types of math, including geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus.
  • Learning Center – These are facilities that host tutoring classes. Students might choose between private and group tutoring. Some of the learning centers even offer online services that make it easier for more students to keep up with their classes regardless of where they live and what schedules they keep.
