Used appliances are those that have been used by other parties and resold after refurbishment. This can present a less costly option for consumers, compared with buying brand new appliances, such as fridges, freezers, washers, and dryers. Appliances, both small and major, can improve the lives of people in the home, offering a faster, more efficient way to wash dishes and prepare food. Some are electric, and others are gas. It all depends on the energy system you use in your home. You can visit a used appliance store or dealer to find discounts on used appliances like refrigerators and other major household kitchen and bathroom appliances. But it helps to know some common terms first pertaining to appliances found in your home.

  • Range - A kitchen stove used for cooking that runs on electric power. It usually features a cooktop with several burners.
  • Food Processor - A small kitchen appliance that blends, purees, and dices soft foods of all kinds, from tomatoes to bananas.
  • Fridge - Short for refrigerator, this major kitchen appliances keeps foods and drinks cold.
  • Freezer - A major household appliance, used in conjunction with a refrigerator, that keeps food frozen.
  • Used appliance - A device, such as a washing machine, dryer, washer, or oven that has had a previous owner. It may be gently used, which will fetch a higher price than an older appliance that has had several uses over the years. They can be small, such as microwaves or blenders, or large, such as washing machines, dishwashers, and stoves.

Used appliances dealers often have second hand washing machines, microwave ovens, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, gas stoves, electric stoves, clothes dryers, air conditioners, and water purification devices. When you contact the used appliances outlet, ask them how long they have been in business. Those with several years of experience should have a wider range of appliances because they have more contacts that can supply them with reconditioned and donation appliances. Ask the outlet if they have the kinds of ovens and ranges that you prefer. They might have both electric stoves and gas stoves for you to choose from. If you need furniture, then be sure to ask if they have the tables, chairs, beds, and other items that you need. If you want to get rid of some of your older appliances, ask them if them if they accept donations. If they are a charity, then you might be able to make a tax deduction based on the values of the ovens, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, microwave ovens, freezers, and refrigerators that you donate. Ask them if they have someone who can appraise the used appliances for you and provide the paperwork that you will need to make the deduction when you file your taxes.
