Waste management is an important part of modern industrial society. Most of us depend on regular garbage collection to get rid of the trash we routinely accumulate.   • Composting - The process of fertilizing soil with decomposing plant remains or other organic materials.
  • Municipal Solid Waste - Waste material derived from everyday household activities. Also called MSW. Examples of MSW include newspapers and discarded food.
  • Hazardous Waste - Used materials that can pollute the environment, due to their acidic, toxic, combustible, or otherwise dangerous composition. Hazardous waste should not be disposed of in the same manner as everyday domestic waste. Medical waste, such as used needles, generally fall under this category, and care must be taken to have it removed and sanitized correctly.
