  • Mechanical – A mechanical watch operates through mechanical mechanisms driven by a spring. They will require repairs over time and winding to keep them accurate.
  • Automatic – An automatic watch used electric mechanisms that are powered by a battery or quartz crystal. These watches may derive energy from a wearer’s movement to keep them accurate or need occasional battery changes.
  • Winder - Winders keep watch movements accurate. Older mechanical watches and clocks require cleaning and lubrication as well as winding to maintain accurate time keeping. Automatic watches that depend on movement should also be kept in a winding device when not being worn.
