Popular Wholesale Wine Terms

If you have a restaurant, bar, or grocery business, chances are you will need a good wholesale wine supplier. A wholesaler can help you select the varieties of reds and whites that will be popular with your customers. The following are a few common wholesale wine terms to be familiar with when shopping.

  • Vintage Wine – A vintage wine is made from grapes that were all grown and harvested during the same year. The term vintage is also used to refer to high quality wines from a specific year. For instance, port wineries often promote a specific vintage because the year was a good year for wine making.
  • Decanter – A decanter is container used to decant wine or liquor. Any sediment present in a wide or liquor will fall to the bottom of a decanter. Also, decanters act as aerators for wine. They can vary from simple containers to elaborately designed glass bottles.
  • Champagne – Champagne is a carbonated wine produced in the champagne region of France. Beverages produced elsewhere are typically referred to as sparkling wines. Champagne is produced from both white and red wine grapes.
  • Dessert Wine – Desert wines are wines with a sweet taste that are served with dessert. They typically have both a high level of alcohol by volume and a high level of sugar. There are both red and white varieties of dessert wine available.
  • Wine Cellar – A wine cellar is a room designed for storing bottled or barreled wine. Some are temperature and humidity controlled to preserve the taste of the wine and prevent spoiling.

Wholesale wines distributors bring the price down of both red and white wines. Suppliers have domestic and imported beverages that go well with certain entrees and desserts. Beer and spirits distribution ranges in price, depending on the type of beverages they're selling, as well as their age. Wholesale rates are a great way to save money on a favorite wine. A glass of Chardonnay, White Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, and many other types of wine work well with different types of foods, highlighting their flavors. Suppliers of wholesale red and white wine may require a minimum purchase for distribution. Some may only sell to commercial customers, including restaurants, liquor stores, and grocery stores. Others sell their liquor, wine, and beer to the public. Cabernet, Champagne, Pinot Grigio, and Merlot are a few other examples one can find from a wholesale wine supplier. To find more information on wholesale wine suppliers, one can visit their website or go to their location to get a look at their inventory. Visiting their location gives customers a better idea at what types of Riesling, Cabernet, and Chardonnay are available. If looking for a specific type of wine and year, it may take a multiple visits to different suppliers to find it. When browsing the website of a wine wholesaler, customers are able to take a look at their stock very easily. Websites may even allow customers to purchase wines online and have them delivered or picked up. Customers can easily visit several different websites to determine who offers the best price and a better selection of wines, beers, and liquor to choose from.
