Definitions of Wires
If you have ever tried to put together a home entertainment system, then you probably already know more about wires than you ever wanted. For the rest of us, here are some common terms about wire products so that you can understand the differences between wires:
Single Conductor Wires: Wires that provide only one electrical conduction line. They were commonly used in wiring for older homes. There are two types, the single-core and the stranded. Single-core wires have better electrical connections, but they are stiffer than stranded wires, which can easily be woven into a wiring system.
Multi-Conductor Wires: Wires that can carry multiple electrical charges. They include a “hot” or live electrical wire, a neutral wire, and a grounding wire. Multi-conductor wires are commonly used in modern homes as our demand for electricity has increased. Remember that neutral wires are always gray or white, while the grounding wire should be green, if it is colored at all. The live wire is any other color.
NM Wire: NM stands for non-metallic wire. This a multi-conductor wire that does not have a metal wrap and is commonly used for interior circuitry. Some of the larger NM wires may contain 2 live wires. The two live wires should be different colors, but they should not be gray, white, or green.
MC Wire: MC stands for metal covered wired. This type is sheathed in metal to help protect the wires inside, but because it is so expensive it is rarely used inside homes. MC wires are multi-conductor wires that are used for circuitry wiring.
Manufacturers of wire and wire products provide materials that are integral to manufacturing a variety of products. Wire is used in the production of electronics, automobiles, construction items, automobiles, and health services industry equipment. Manufacturers of wire will carry an array of different wires which service many purposes. Wires will be available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and strengths. Window screens use mesh steel wire, which may be thick or thing depending if it will be used for residential or commercial purposes. Wires that are used in electronics will include smaller metal wire, including copper to conduct electricity, which is coated with industrial grade polyurethane for safety, protecting the wire and any repair technician who could perform work in the future. When searching for wire products, conduct an online search. You should be familiar with different types of wire and know which wire will serve your purposes best. If you are uncertain regarding the appropriate type of wire to use on your project, a reliable wire distributor should be able to suggest the best products. After comparing the stock, pricing, and customer service of a few wire distributors, you will be able to make a decision regarding the supplier you would like to use. Be certain to confirm the type of wire you believe will best suit your project. Ask the wire supply professional if they are able to offer any suggestions regarding how you may maximize the performance of your wire. You should also inquire about bulk sale pricing, which could be the best price saving option if you need a large amount of wire.
