Your Shichon seems like it would be the perfect addition to our family!! Our 2 children (7 & 11) have been longing for a dog to love for so long now and I have carefully been researching to find a dog that is good with children. We are interested in your shichon. Our older son is an asperger's child whose strong interest is dogs. My wife is a massage therapist who is setting up a home practice, so we need a dog that is quiet when alone. If this is true, please let me know. My parents live in Williamsburg and they could pick up the dog. Currently, there are two pekinese dogs (both with very gentle personalities) living with them. I will be flying in to be with them in January and will be able to fly the dog back with me. Please let me know if this makes sense.

I've just recently heard about this breed, and am very interested in it. I've been looking for a dog for the past six months, and am waiting to find the right one.

Why didnt you give the dog back to dawm Littlefield? Is'nt that in her contract? Ive just been in contact with her regarding the purchase of one of her Shichons, and I was just curious. Was there any particular reason why you didnt deal with her. |

My family is seeking a shichon to add to our family of four. We have two small children that are well behaved but rescently had to say goodbye to our little pomeranian because of their severe allergy suffer from all his shedding hair. We have searched a very long time and very hard for the dog that would most fit us and are posittive this is th eone for us. My children and me would be home with him all day while my huband works. We have a nice yard and neighborhood to go outside to play in (since my children are outsiders) , but when we come in so would he. We take the very best of our little family members, and take him to the beat vet our suurondings have to offer. We are very loving and more than anything want a shichon to add to our family. I am so sorry your so is afraid of your little angel, I know how it feels to say goodbye to a pet that you love so dearly, it's hard to give him up but even harder to find a loving family that has nothing but the best intrest for the little guy. You just have to hope that your heart and gut lead you in the right direction. Hopefully that we be us, but if not that is okay. Thank you for taking the time to read my forever long e-mail and hope you find the perfect home for your little guy.

Pardon the pun, but Lucy's Mom, why are you so rabid about this?
If you don't like these dogs, don't buy one! You are making a fool of yourself, here and on any other thread that mentions Shichons.
They sound like great dogs. I wouldn't pay that much money for any dog (I believe Dawn Littlefield is asking $1500 per pup) but I'd gladly pay $350 for a mixed breed that had the personality and characteristics that I was looking for. It's impossible to determine those things in a "pound" dog while they are still in the shelter.
So, while I may agree with you in small part, your comments are a bit like watching a train wreck. I can't look away, but I want to. |

The email address is www.mixedbreedpups.com I just sent my deposit in for a Bichon/Shih Tzu mix due near Christmas. They have allot of good information on many mixed breeds as well. Check it out. Also, they aren't priced as high as Dawn's. They are about $500 for males and $550 for females. They also ship for about $150-$200 more. |

Hi -
We have been looking for small dog for our daughter who said last year that she would like a pet. After looking through dogbreedinfo.com, the Shichon breed came up as an ideal candidate. The traits that came up on the site were ideal for our situation: no shedding, great health, relatively small, very quiet, great with kids, ...
I was browsing around the Internet looking for more information about Shichons and came upon a site in which someone posted that they purchased a puppy from Dawn in Oklahoma (she is the one started the whole Shichon thing and now runs the definitive Shichon website). She mentioned that the dog that they got was not what was advertised. This intrigued me and so I got in touch with the gal. I must say that I was quite shocked at what I heard.
She told me that the dog is a constant yapper in the backyard when alone and needs constant companionship, it is somewhat rough with the kids, and is rather large. She didn't mention if there were any health problems, but she never did receive papers for the puppy they got and aren't sure of the lineage. They paid close to $1500 for it because they thought there were getting the dog with all the traits that dogbreedinfo.com stated and they were disappointed by it. They said they definitely overpaid. And this dog was from the definitive source of Shichon's - THE source.
My point of writing this is that it makes sense to me now that the dog that these people received would be anything less than ideal. The Shichon is a new breed of dog and I'm guessing that it will take many, many generations of breeding before the ideal traits that are "promised" for this dog will be realized. It takes more than a few generations before you can breed in the desirable qualities and breed out the undesirable. Just because one person "writes up" a set of traits for a new breed of dog doesn't make it so. I'm guessing it will take decades before we come close to seeing it come to fruition - if at all. Judging by what is out there right now when I do a Internet search on Shichons, I'm guessing that now that Dawn is out of the dog breeding business, that Shichon breeder's are not more than one or two generations away from the original Bichon/Shih-Tzu parents.
Maybe a better way of writing it up would be to say "This is the desired set of characteristics that we would like this new breed of dog to have" so that breeders can work towards that. I naively bought into the false idea that if you introduce a Bichon to a Shih-Tzu and let nature takes its course, that a healthy, quiet, gentle, small dog would be the result. In actuality - and please don't be offended by this - you are getting a mutt.
I don't want this to be a discouragement to those reading here. I just wanted to share some of the thoughts that have been going through my mind since receiving a reply from the individual who posted about her experience - and to take it for what its worth. If you want, I can try to find the link to that site where I saw her original post. It was an msn site that allowed people to create personal pages and someone created a site for shichon puppies.
At this point, I'm not sure we will go with a Shichon. Something similar to it would still be ideal, but I am not holding out hope that our "ideal" dog will be realized. But thats Ok, because I know it will still become a part of our family and that my daughter will grow to love this dog - which is really what its all about anyways.

I have Shichon pups that will be available June 4th. They are a Bichon/Shih-Tzu cross. They are home raised and loved. They will have their first shots, wormed, and have a vet health certificate.
