Kerosene is a petroleum product that is sometimes used for cooking, heating and for illumination purposes. In the second half of the 19th century kerosene was used around the world for illumination purposes. With the rise of the electric light, kerosene lamps fell out of favor although they are still used in undeveloped countries of the world. Kerosene lamps are sometimes used by some people as backup light sources for when the power goes out. Kerosene can be purchased at some filling stations and at some petroleum product dealers. Kerosene stoves are frequently used by campers and can be bought at camping stores and outdoor outfitters. Kerosene heaters are sometimes used as a back up heating source and these heaters are sometimes sold in heating stove stores. Kerosene lamps can still be purchased at some army-navy supply stores and other stores that sell emergency supplies.
